Вот за этих “защитников демократии” сейчас собирается воевать Обама.

While the jihadis claim to be superior fighters, and have collaborated with secular Syrian rebels, some analysts and diplomats also note that they can appear less focused on toppling President Bashar al-Assad. Instead, they said, they focus more on establishing a zone of influence spanning Iraq’s Anbar Province and the desert eastern areas of Syria, and eventually establishing an Islamic territory under their administration.

Other areas are under more secular control, including the suburbs of Damascus. In East Ghouta, for example, the suburbs east of the capital where the chemical attack took place, jihadis are not dominant, according to people who live and work there.

And while the United States has said it seeks policies that would strengthen secular rebels and isolate extremists, the dynamic on the ground, as seen in the execution video from Idlib and in a spate of other documented crimes, is more complicated than a contest between secular and religious groups.

Mr. Issa’s father was opposed to President Hafez al-Assad, the father of Syria’s current president. He disappeared in 1982, according to Mr. Issa’s accounts.

Mr. Issa, the aide said, believes his father was killed during a 27-day government crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood that year, known as the Hama massacre.

И, вообще, у меня сейчас ощущение такое, что где-то я все это уже видел. Это когда Буш-младший шел воевать Хуссейна и предлогом было некое “оружие массового уничтожения”, (WMD) которое, якобы, у Саддама есть. И даже обещали его показать.

А Обама, как мне помнится, на волне критики политики Буша в Ираке въехал в “Белый Дом”.

Кстати, сейчас они с Джоном МакКейном говорят практически в унисон. Одни и те же речи. Отличить их сейчас почти невозможно.

А вот по последним опросам большинство американцев думают также, как эта женщина.

Похоже на то, что Сенатор от Аризоны даже не понял, что женщина из Сирии. “Он там был, он все знает!” И даже Асада он уже определил почти теми же самыми словами, что и Саддама Хуссейна. Я же говорю, не проходит ощущение того, что я это уже видел.

Just 36 percent of Americans support President Barack Obama’s call for air strikes against Syrian President Bashar Assad, who the U.S. claims used chemical weapons to kill about 1,400 Syrians, including more than 400 children, according to a Gallup survey released Friday. Obama said he would seek congressional approval before moving ahead with the intervention, but faces stiff opposition from members, the public and the international community.

“Failing to respond to this breach of this international norm would send a signal to rogue nations, authoritarian regimes and terrorist organizations that they can develop and use weapons of mass destruction and not pay a consequence,” Obama said Friday during a news conference at the G-20 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. “And that’s not the world that we want to live in.”

The negative public opinion underscores why the president said he would address the public Tuesday to lay out his case for the intervention.

Gallup compiled public opinion on other recent military operations – from the Iraq War to Kosovo – all of which had more support than Obama’s plan for Syria.
