Несмотря ни на что, команда Портланда сегодня одержала еще одну победу в серии Playoffs с командой Houston “Rockets”.

Теперь счет в серии 3 — 1.

Напомню, что серия играется до четырех побед какой-либо стороны.

Почти спортивная история…

Почти, потому что это связано со спортом, а если точнее, то с командой Portland “Trail Blazers” и в то же время, это история о воле к жизни.

PORTLAND – A Newberg woman, who likened her battle with cancer to the Trailblazers’ Western Conference final against the Houston Rockets, has created a viral sensation on social media.
Haley Bellows was just 11 days cancer-free when she held up a sign during game four of the NBA playoff at the Moda Center Sunday that said, ‘If I can beat cancer, RipCity can beat the Rockets!’
Bellows, her head bald from chemo, was flashed on the arena’s Jumbotron screen to swelling cheers as she held her sign during the fourth quarter of the Blazers game. And since then, the images have been shared over and over again on Twitter and Instagram.
Her indomitable spirit apparently struck a chord with fans and people across the country, including Trail Blazer point guard Damian Lillard.

“I don’t even know what I meant by ‘If I can beat cancer, RipCity can beat the Rockets,” Bellows told KGW Monday. “Its more like, ‘I want on the Jumbotron and this is the sign that will do it!’”
The 22-year-old college student at George Fox University, described herself as a sports lover, a coffee addict and Jesus follower. She was diagnosed with a Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer two years ago, just after getting back from a month-long trip to Romania and Moldova.
“Like everyone who’s had cancer in my family has died,” Bellows said. “A lot of them were older and smoked, so they got lung cancer. But my perception of cancer is death.”
Since then, Bellows has chronicled her ordeals in a blog:
“I have done all that I can to get rid of this cancer…I’ve invited poison to flow through my veins. I’ve laid alone in a room while fiery laser beams tried to diminish what is there. My body has been sliced open and stitched shut several times over.”
She also blogged about what the chemo did to her teeth and hair.
“You don’t really realize the amount of value we place on our hair until we no longer have it. Being bald has left me feeling vulnerable and different. Being bald is a physical reminder of the battle for survival.”
At times she’s been exhausted and dispirited but with help from her friends and her faith, Bellows said she’s better for it.
“I have been stretched, broken, molded, and reformed,” Bellows wrote. “I see life through much larger lenses, and I appreciate moments that tend to slip by unnoticed in seasons past.”
The outpouring of support she’s gotten on social media, her cancer remission and an edge-of-your-seat Blazer’s victory also seems to have given Bellows a rewarding moment at the end of a very long, hard road.

Спорт и расизм…

Эта история тоже связана с баскетболом, с NBA. Владелец команды Los Angeles “Clippers” сказал несколько фраз своей “подруге”, которые были сочтены расистскими. Эта история, запись сказанного Дональдом Стерлингом, — попала к журналистам. И теперь это новость номер 1 в США.

Весь профессиональный спорт обсуждает случившееся и завтра головной офис NBA должен выступить с заявлением, которое должно определить, какие санкции могут быть применены к миллиардеру Дональду Стерлингу. Кажется, даже Обама уже высказал свое мнение. Баскетболисты проявляют свой протест, кто как может. Вчера перед игрой с Golden State “Warriors” баскетболисты команды Los Angeles “Clippers”, которая принадлежит Стерлингу, все вышли на середину площадки, сняли с себя куртки и бросили их на середину, выернув их наизнанку. Знаки протеста и несогласия проявляют и другие профессиональные команды в NBA, да и не только NBA.

Конечно же, его “подруга”, распространив эту запись, тут же подала на Стерлинга в суд. Несколько миллионов она от него “отберет”. В этом нет никаких сомнений и ни у кого.

Что же такого сказал “бедный” миллиардер Стерлинг?

В абсолютно личном разговоре, человек с голосом “похожим на голос Дональда Стерлинга” попросил свою подругу, которая “темнокожая и испаноговорящая” не приводить с собой на стадион “небелых” своих друзей. “Ты можешь спать с ними, можешь приводить их с собой домой. Ты можешь делать все, что угодно. Самое малое, что я прошу у тебя, это не распространяться об этом и не приводить их с собой на мои игры”

The firestorm enveloping L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling is supposed to be the kind of racism controversy everyone can feel good about. After all, the alleged tape of Sterling’s remarks, reportedly recorded by his girlfriend, V. Stiviano, features the sort of mustache-twirling cartoon villain racism everyone can condemn without feeling implicated. Or does it?

As the New Republic’s Isaac Chotiner points out, “there are bigger racial problems in the country than people privately spouting sinister garbage to their friends.”

Sterling’s past record of facing discrimination lawsuits, including one in a housing discrimination case that ended with a massive, nearly $3 million settlement (although Sterling admitted to no wrongdoing), and another from former Clippers executive Elgin Baylor that was later dismissed, hints at these larger, systemic problems. Long after the Sterling controversy grows cold, vast, racial disparities in wealth, education, employment, health care, social mobility, political representation and incarceration will still exist.

“I’m just saying in your lousy f***** Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people,” the man identified as Sterling says in the recording. You can sleep with them. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that, and not to bring them to my games.”

Sterling’s overt racism is of the sort that is rarely publicly expressed – and, in fact, in his case, wasn’t publicly expressed – but even then rarely does the speaker consider his or her own remarks racist. Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher and conservative folk hero who speculated last week that black people might have been better off as slaves, insisted “I’m not racist.” As NPR’s Gene Demby writes, “ ‘racist’ has become a term both monstrous and meaningless, that denotes something so vile and inhuman that no real person might ever meet the standard.”

Sterling shows that in some extreme cases, some people manage to meet that standard – though naturally, Sterling’s representatives have already released a statement saying that “what is reflected on that recording is not consistent with, nor does it reflect his views, beliefs or feelings. It is the antithesis of who he is, what he believes and how he has lived his life.”

В общем, я постарался изложить историю такой, какой ее представляют сейчас СМИ в США. Лично у меня есть несколько вопросов: Конечно же, во всем что было сказанно “голосом похожим на голос Дональда Стерлинга” есть признаки расизма, но… Разговор был личный, и несмотря на это, он был записан. Безусловно, фактор “миллионов” сыграл в этой истории совсем немалую роль.

И все-таки, интересно, какие санкции могут быть применены к Стерлингу? Заставят заплатить штраф? Отберут команду? Или заставят ее продать кому-то еще?
